Rebranding for businesses becoming who they were meant to become.

New identity or a full reinvention: Extra Medium designs and rolls out brands with the strategy to back them. For companies whose brand no longer tells the truth about them.

What this actually means

What branding and rebranding means here.

Branding is the creation of a brand's identity: name, visual system, voice and the way it shows up everywhere. Rebranding is changing an existing identity because the business has changed, the market has changed, or the old brand was never right. A brand refresh updates the expression while keeping the core; a full rebrand changes the strategy underneath as well.

A rebranding agency guides the whole arc: diagnosing what is actually wrong, deciding what to keep, redesigning the identity, and managing the rollout across web, product, packaging, signage and people. Extra Medium handles the strategy, the creative direction and the rollout so nothing gets lost between the deck and the world.

Who this is for

You will recognize yourself, or you won’t.

  • The business has grown, merged, been acquired or changed direction and the brand still describes the old company.
  • You look like every competitor and cannot say why a customer should choose you.
  • The visual identity is dated enough that it costs you credibility with the customers you want next.
  • You are entering a new market or category and the current brand does not travel.
How we think about it

The work, in order.

  1. Diagnose before redesigning

Many rebrands fail because they solved a design problem when the real problem was positioning. We start by finding out which one you have.

  2. Decide what survives

Equity is real. We identify what customers already value about the brand and protect it, then change everything that is holding the business back.

  3. Design the system, not a logo

Identity, typography, color, motion, photography direction and voice, built as a system your team and partners can extend.

  4. Roll it out like a launch

A rebrand is a launch. We sequence the reveal, internal adoption, website, product, sales materials and communications so the new brand arrives whole.

From experience

Why we see it this way.

Real work, not a summary of the internet.

Our experience

We have led brand integration and modernization after an acquisition, repositioned businesses shifting from traditional to digital, and built our own brands from a blank page. The pattern we see most often: companies wait too long to rebrand because they confuse familiarity with equity. The market moved, the customers changed, and the brand became a costume the company wears out of habit.

The other failure is the opposite: rebranding as a cosmetic reset while the strategy stays vague. Our test for every rebrand is simple. If a customer sees the new brand and cannot tell what changed about the business, the work is not done.

Questions people ask

Straight answers.

What is the difference between branding and rebranding?

Branding creates an identity for the first time. Rebranding changes an existing one. The distinction matters because rebranding carries equity, history and internal attachment that have to be managed, not just designed over.

Brand refresh vs. rebrand: which do we need?

If the positioning is right and only the expression looks tired, a refresh is enough: updated identity, typography, color, photography and voice. If the business itself has changed, or the position was never clear, you need a rebrand that starts with strategy. We diagnose this in the first two weeks of every engagement.

How long does a rebrand take?

A brand refresh can run six to ten weeks. A full rebrand with strategy, identity, website and rollout usually runs three to six months depending on the size of the organization and the number of touchpoints.

How do you protect what customers already like about our brand?

Through research and an equity audit before design starts. We interview customers and your team about what they associate with the brand and which elements carry real value, then make explicit decisions about what to keep.
